The year 2012 had seen a big boom in the Android market; phone manufacturers embraced the Android platform and came out with a wide range of low and mid ranged phones. Indian companies seemed to have got their act together when it came to the low cost segment and it was brands like Micromax that dominated the low and mid price segments.

The Galaxy range of smart phones have been dominating the high end phones market and the Samsung Galaxy S3 was the first to come out with the version of Jelly Bean running on it, which also saw project butter working perfectly on it. Powered by a Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor, this phone has the potential to remain a top-seller for Samsung for quite some time. This phone also has an 8 MP camera that can take pixel perfect images and full HD videos. If you are still not impressed, the super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S3 is as close as you are going to get to the Retina display on the iPhone for now.

As mentioned initially, Indian phone manufacturers seem to have got their act together. The Micromax Canvas 2 is the best phone that you can own without compromising on price and performance. The phone looks strikingly similar to the Galaxy S3 which is a compliment in itself. The Taiwanese phone maker has been one of the biggest gainers in the smart phone market, thanks to the Android boom. Powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 1.7 GHz, quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, this phone should strike the fancy of music fanatics who would also be impressed by it’s inbuilt Beats Audio enhancer.

The Micromax Ninja 4 runs on Android 2.3.5 (high time it got an upgrade) and has a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. A 4 inch 800 x 480 resolution LCD screen makes the phone a real bargain for the price that it comes for. The phone even supports 3G on one of it’s sims and there are other features like WiFi and GPS that make this phone a great value for money. The phone offers upto 5 hours of talk time which is a little less, but for the price tag of around Rs 5600, it is an absolute bargain.
